So the pool was set to short course meters this morning, which was interesting. I don't feel like trying to keep track of yards and meters separately, so I'm just going to convert and round to yards for my distance tracking.

As soon as school is 0ut we're going to change our schedule so we practice Monday, Thursday, and Friday, with Thursday being long course meters. I think it will be fun, since I've never swam long course before, but will also suck, because masters only gets two lanes, so we're going to have a ton of people sharing with a wide range of skill/speed. I guess we'll see how that goes.

The workout today was good. Not too challenging, but I think it was a technique day, so that's okay. A new gal named Karen was in our lane today. She normally swims with Vortex, but apparently they are totally messing with their pool at the moment. First they didn't have a women's locker room (they had to change in the bathroom and could only get a deck shower) and now they aren't heating the pool (as they're working on the heating system), so she came to our practice instead. She's an older lady, and a little slow, but she's really pretty hardcore (apparently she swam a 10K last year).

This weekend I have my first triathlon, so I'm doing a little bit of swimming at the end with my head up to spot a target so I can get used to that in open water. To be honest, I'm alternately terrified and completely calm about the whole thing. We'll see how I am when I actually have to DO it. It's only 800 meters, but I haven't had any open water practice, and I'm mildly scared of what might be lurking in the dark (and not being able to touch bottom if I inhale lake water or something), but I will be in a wetsuit, so I'll have that extra buoyancy, and 800 meters is really pretty short (just under 900 yards). Yeah, I can do this. Or something.

Two weeks from today is my 30th birthday. I have the day off from work, but I'm going to get up and swim anyway. I'm not sure if I should tell Evan it's my birthday or not. He mentioned something before about having to swim a 50 fly while everyone splashes you on your birthday. Maybe I'll wait until the very end of the workout. ;)
